As Jackie Wang considers the debt as a form of unfreedom that is unequally distributed, she writes these essays wanting to show “how carceral techniques of the state are shaped by – and work in tandem with – the imperatives of global capitalism”. The essays discuss a wide range of topics, in particular two key themes: the connection between racism, capitalism and financialization, the manipulation of time in prison as it is a waiting limbo waiting to be judged.
